Design

An Icon is Born

The sports design of Subaru BRZ reveals an engineering obsession that’s all about fun. Driving with a sleek bonnet and sweeping curves flanked by muscular front fenders, dynamic side flares and striking 17" alloy wheels.

The large rear diffuser aids its advanced aerodynamics, designed to cut through the air with minimal resistance. The aggressive nose, signature Subaru hexagonal lower grille and low-slung body hint at the performance within, while the front and rear overhangs are shaved to a minimum, adding to the sporty appeal of the exterior.

Design

Racing Inspired Interior

You’ll have a true feel for the road in the Subaru BRZ as you sit low in the heavily bolstered sports bucket seats and with red accent stitching, you’ll be looking good too. But will you go for classic sports cloth or Alcantara® seats with leather1 accents? We’ll throw in some extra fun with a leather-wrapped, small-diameter steering wheel.

The cockpit is full of sophistication, with the sport tachometer and integrated digital speedometer at the centre of your experience. Everything is designed with fun, exceptional driver control and style in mind.

Design

Unapologetic Sports Styling

Subaru BRZ is engineered with both the engine and the driver in perfect positions. A decision which drove all other design parameters, to make an unapologetic sports car with modern touches.

The Boxer engine is centred and mounted as low as possible within the chassis. The optimal driver position means you’ll have a great feel for the road and the conditions. Plus the rear wheel drive dynamics and suspension geometry combine with a lightweight, highly rigid body structure for an even more fun and responsive drive.

Steer through your day, without taking your hands off the wheel or your eyes off the road. With Bluetooth®2  technology and through the controls on the leather-wrapped steering wheel. This provides easy to view driver information, making for a safer, more convenient drive, without needing to divert your attention from the road.

An Engineering Obsession

We broke all the rules when we designed BRZ. A car unique in the Subaru range, with a rear wheel drive design, powered by our renowned engineering soul.

Subaru BRZ is fun to drive and it all starts with the perfect engine and driving positions. These factors drove all other design parameters, to make an unapologetic sports car for the modern age.

The Boxer engine is centred and mounted as low as possible within the chassis.

Performance

Legendary Boxer Engine

Subaru BRZ is powered by our famous horizontally–opposed Boxer engine. This engine is a major reason why BRZ can sit low and grip the road.

The high-revving 2.0-litre four cylinder Boxer engine features both direct and port injection technology, producing152kW* of power and 212Nm* of torque, for a throaty engine roar that’s pure adrenaline-pumping fun. To deliver dynamic sports car driving, the two transmission types focus on delivering a rewarding shift feel and quick response.

Rear Wheel Makes It Racier

The BRZ, being a pure sports car, optimizes the position of engine and transmission to lower the centre of gravity and achieve an excellent weight distribution of 53:47 (front:rear).

The effect is to minimise weight transfer when cornering, braking and accelerating to help keep all four wheels firmly planted on the road surface. This improves grip, creates sharper steering response and increases handling stability. More driving confidence and full on fun – the essence of what makes BRZ very definitely a Subaru.

Features of the BRZ

  • The front suspension has been designed to produce a direct, sharp response. While the rear suspension increases a feel for the road, making it easier for the driver to gauge rear wheel grip, moment to moment.
  • Thanks to its clever combination of collision protection technology, Subaru BRZ has achieved the maximum 5 star ANCAP1 safety rating. This is a result of an incredibly rigorous safety innovation program.
  • Includes seven SRS2 airbags – dual front, dual front side, curtain-style and drivers-knee – and a whiplash-reducing design, which provides extreme support for passengers’ head, neck and torso.
  • In case of an accident, the ring-shaped passenger cell redirects impact energy around your passengers, while the body frame is structured to distribute the impact to reduce cabin distortion.
  • The famous Subaru Boxer engine is not only a great performer; it also helps to reduce the risk of injury in a severe frontal collision. This is because it’s designed to sit lower and flatter in the engine bay than traditional engines, so it will slide below the cabin – not through it – in a heavy front end accident.
  • Sudden stopping. Surprise roadworks. Hairpin turns. Subaru BRZ is ready for extreme urban conditions with its electronic driver assist system, Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC). Featuring a range of stability and braking technologies, VDC steps in to help maintain your safety in extreme situations.
  • Electronic Stability Control: Helps you gain control if you unexpectedly understeer or oversteer, by applying brakes, reducing engine power and distributing torque.
  • Anti-lock Braking System: Helps you stay in control by minimising stopping distance and maintaining vehicle control under brakes.
  • Electronic Brake Force Distribution: Helps keep you safe by controlling the braking pressure to the front and rear wheels all the time.
  • You’ll never need to look away from the road, with the new Multi-Information Display unit providing all your vehicle information right in the centre of your instrument cluster.
